As Robin wrote about in this post, we launched our book tour for The Lazy Gourmet a couple of weeks ago with a flurry of promotional appearances, both virtual and flesh-based. This past week marked the second leg of our tour, with two bookstore events and our official book launch party all taking place within the span of eight days. That’s a whole lot of cooking, talking, signing, and eating. Hey, maybe we’re not really lazy after all!
Our first stop was Oakland’s famed Diesel, A Bookstore, where we told the crowd about our cooking backgrounds (Robin grew up a foodie, while I was more of a junk foodie)—and about how our decades-long, food-filled friendship led to the writing of our book. After the chat we busted out a snacky buffet of Blue Cheese and Pecan Shortbread Crackers, Fig and Onion Jam, White Bean Spread with Parmesan and Mint, and Olive and Sun-Dried Tomato Tapenade—all recipes from the book.
Our official book launch party took place just a few days later, at San Francisco’s Bazaar Cafe. The menu included everything we served at Diesel plus Spicy Pickled Carrots and Green Beans, Artichoke and Fennel Caponata, and Roasted Potatoes with Cilantro-Parsley Dipping Sauce. (That last item was one of the most thoroughly gobbled and talked about of the night. I wasn’t the only one desperately scooping up the cilantro sauce with slices of bread once the potatoes had run out.) We saw a lot of wonderful friends, sold a ton of books, and went home very, very tired.
We finished up the week with another bookstore event, this time at Berkeley’s gorgeous Books, Inc. (East Bay parents, you must check out their incredible selection of kids’ books and toys.) As usual, we talked, snacked, and met some really great people.
If you want to get in on the tasty fun, you can come to Reader’s Books in Sonoma, CA, on June 25 (2:00 pm) or Book Passage in Corte Madera, CA, on August 13 (1:00 pm). For you Southern Californians, we’ll be at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena on August 7 (4:00 pm). You can visit our events page to keep up with our other whereabouts. Can’t wait to see you!
