Wowsers. It’s been a whirlwind in Lazy Gourmet Land since The Lazy Gourmet: Magnificent Meals Made Easy was released on May 1. First, our virtual tour of the interwebs took us to food blogs near and far, including Words to Eat By, Art and Lemons, Living the Gourmet, Mr. Food, Food Blogga, and Big Flavors from a Tiny Kitchen.
Last Friday, I started the day bright and early with a 6:00 A.M. interview on KAXE, a National Public Radio station in Minnesota, chatting with hosts Heidi and John about the Lazy Gourmet concept, the recipes, and what I had for breakfast (lots of coffee and a poached egg on an English muffin with Feta cheese and a dousing of Tapatio).
This week, our Real Life Book Tour began with Sunday’s bang-up event at the fabulously cookbook-centric Omnivore Books on Food in San Francisco’s Noe Valley. Since this was our first such event, Jules and I weren’t sure what kind of response we’d get, but the gracious audience seemed pleasantly entertained as we recounted the story of how we met and became lifelong friends, cooking partners, and coauthors. They even laughed at our jokes. And they seemed to enjoy the spread of nibbles we put out, too, which included Blue Cheese and Pecan Shortbread, Fig and Onion Jam, and Basil and Goat Cheese Wraps.
Last night, Judy Wheeler, owner of Towne Center Books in the quaint East Bay town of Pleasanton, welcomed us, along with a veritable crowd of customers, with a feast she had prepared herself using recipes from The Lazy Gourmet. Her White Bean Spread with Parmesan and Mint, Roasted Asparagus with Lemon Vinaigrette, Cilantro and Spinach Soup with Homemade Croutons, and Lemon-Lavender Butter Cookies celebrated the deliciousness of Spring. The happily sated audience again bestowed us with smiles, laughs, and lots of great questions.
